Description
In gasoline engines, Ignition leads are the components of the vehicle generating the spark needed for ignition and engine operation. The high voltage produced by the coil is transmitted to the spark plugs via the wires. The current passes from the spark plug to the combustion chamber to ignite the air-fuel mixture that operates the engine.
There are two types of cables, the one going from the distributor to the spark plugs and the cable going from the coil to the distributor.
If the plug wires are damaged it is important to change them as soon as possible in order to avoid:
- Problems with sensors and vehicle control units
- Increased fuel consumption by leakage currents that prevent the correct spark, causing incomplete combustion
- Deformation of caps or cables on long journeys where the engine generates high temperatures
- Risk of fire by not having proper flame retardant treatment
- Low resistance to corrosion, chemicals and temperature

Mounting
To consider when fitting or replacing:
-
The engine must be cold
-
Avoid bending the terminals when connecting or disconnecting the spark plugs, distributor or coil
-
Never re-connect a terminal or cap if it has been separated from de cable. Replace the entire cable
-
Take care not to pierce the wire or cap for any reason
-
Do not use tweezers to remove them, it will damage the cable and its insulation, resulting in current leakage
-
When checking the ignition system, do not use sensors in the ignition cable, you will drill it and cause a sort-circuit
Never pull the wire for disconnecting. Hold the cap and pull the cable simultaneously, smooth and progressive.
It is very important to select the right application for your vehicle, the type of cable you must use is based on the type of car engine.
